PATHEOS Inspired by the original "Patheos" roleplay by Markotovia.
THIS WORLD IS YOURS TO COMMAND...
The Gods have ruled over the realm of Patheos for time immemorial. Some have been around since the world began. Others were born just yesterday. Some of the Gods have built grand civilizations than spanned across oceans and valleys as far as the mortal eye could see. Some have confined themselves in fortified temples guarded by beasts who attack anyone who comes within fifty feet of their walls. Either way, they're Gods, and they're worshipped by someone.
Without worship, they die.
But nevermind that. It's your turn to take the helm. Be a God, rule the world, and avoid being betrayed by your divine brethren in the process. Should be easy enough. Good luck.
APPLICATION Complete in its entirety and be approved in order to be allowed to roleplay.

RULES OF ENGAGEMENT
1. No metagaming or powerplaying. While your God may certainly have powers, you are not to use them in a way that guarantees that you get anything you want. Especially if it greatly harms another character, get their permission. Also take note that this roleplay is classical era/medieval period (with case-by-case exceptions), so plan your technology accordingly. 2. Keep out of character conversations to an absolute minimum in the in-character thread. While addendums are appropriate, don't reference anything outside of the roleplay. 3. You can share powers with other Gods, but you can't be a carbon copy of someone else's God, and you cannot share patronage with another God (in other words, two Gods can have fire powers, but there can only be one "God of Fire"). 4. The word of the moderators is law.
MAP Download and fill in your territory, if you have one. Include the locations of any cities/major settlements. The Gods collectively occupy a phantom territory outside the mortal map: Divinia.

Name of Deity: Atria
Deity Species: Humanoid Diamond
Patron of: Blood, Oaths, and Order
Abode: The Red Castle
Territory: The Atrium Island
Divine Symbols: The Lux Trimond, Her Diamond (mural on the Atrium Island)
Weapons: The Blood Staff, capable of siphoning and manipulating blood/blood arteries, making magically-binding oaths/vows, and restoring objects to their optimal condition.
Backstory: Atria was born when the first drops of pure mortal blood were spilled upon the earth: the generals of two armies met in the center of a grand battle and made the first blood pact, ending their war and ensuring peace in their lands. Their blood, not tainted by murder or deceit, soaked into the earth and hardened over ninety days, eventually forming the first blood diamond. This rock then emerged from Patheos' ground and created for itself a humanoid body: Atria was born. Over the years, she build the Red Castle to reside in on the Atrium Islands, and travelled throughout the realm, seeing to it that mortal vows were kept and relative order was maintained. She often hid her gemstone from the mortals in order to maintain an air of secrecy, and she always kept her right eye covered, for it was particularly sacred.
Deity Appearance: Atria in her humanoid form
Other Information: Atria lives away from the other Gods, mostly keeping out of their affairs unless they come to her for guidance, and has never been to Divinia (though she has become aware of its existence in recent decades); Atria believes her place is on Patheos, and thus would only leave for Divinia on invitation. She is fairly generous, but can be quickly angered when someone breaks a vow or threatens the order (she can sense when oaths are broken among mortals anywhere in Classidia, and uses her Blood Staff to evoke karma). She has the ability to shapeshift and completely flee into her diamond whenever necessary; when angered, she often takes a more militaristic form. Notably, Atria is Asexual, but not completely averse to romance.

Name of Deity: Gratous Deity Species: Spirit Patron of: Mistreated Peoples Abode: Gratous has no permanent home, the closest thing to a physical home being a small hut on the peak of the southernmost island of the realm. Made of straw, wood, and mud, his house is of simple construction. He does have a seat in the Pantheon, but most of the time his soul wanders through the realm, seeking to help the prejudiced and condemn those who put down the weak. Territory: Gratous’s territory is on the large island south of the mainland. Buildings on the island are made of pure white stone from the mountain on the island. Gratous welcomes only the souls that have been tormented to his realm, raising an invincible barrier around the island to protect his subjects from harms outside. Divine Symbol: The symbol of Gratous is an outstretched hand, dirty and scarred. This symbol represents the birth of the god and his willingness to help those in harms way. Weapons: Being a spirit, Gratous is able to posses any object, being, or substance. In doing so, he has the ability to control what he possesses. Most of the time, he possesses inanimate objects to help the harmed (i.e. trees, rocks, carts), but there have been reports of him possessing armies, castles, and the air itself if the need is great enough. Backstory: The birth of Gratous was one of tragedy and horror. Born the eldest son of 9 daughters, he was tasked with caring for his family when his parents died at the hands of debt collectors. At the young age of 12, a large debt was placed on his back in addition to caring for his eight sisters. All but two of his sisters died before he had come-of-age, the last two being held hostage by the debt collectors to force the paying back of the debt. They both died after suffering much abuse by the debt collectors, after which Gratous was thrown into a debtors prison. He remained in that prison for only 9 months, dying of cholera.
Immediately after his death, the sheer force of his anguish was combined with that of his siblings to create the spirit of Gratous. The instant the spirit formed, a great light emerged from the prison, and an explosion destroyed the whole city, killing everyone. All the souls of the dead were sorted: the souls of tormentors and the souls of the tormented. The tormented were brought to the island of Gratous; the tormentors cast into the sea and consumed eternally by monsters. Those who followed Gratous to his realm were to be the first of his subjects and followers, called the Afflicted by those on the mainland. Gratous also rose his right sisters to become his messengers, soldiers, and compatriots. Him and has siblings seek to lift those suffering from their sorrows, trying to ease the pain they felt during their lives. Deity Appearance: Gratous has no physical body. When he does make an appearance, however, he is usually formed as a small spirit boy in ragged clothing. His sisters also appear this way, hair unkept and eyes filled with compassion. When condemning Tormentors and bringing the Tormented to his realm, he and his sisters become weeping Angels radiating light from their skin. The light has been known to flash out, transporting suffering souls to his realm and the tormentors to doom in the seas. Otherwise, Gratous is felt in the presence of the things he possesses. Name of Deity: Meredith Deity Species: Human Patron of: Mercy, Sacrifice, and Peace Abode: None, she is a nomadic goddess that appears as a travelling holy woman in various places throughout Patheos Territory: None, followers have various monasteries and homes of worship throughout the land Divine Symbol: Cross of Meredith, representing the cross that Meredith was crucified on. Weapons: None Backstory:
The being known as Meredith began as a peasant woman who lived in an empire long ago, under the oppressive rule of an Imperial Magistrate of various noble families. The empire lived in prolonged war with its neighbors, and bred strong hatred between the peoples of the land. Meredith, as she came of age, saw through hatred and learned to love all people as her own equals. While initially seen as just a troublesome peasant, she began working to found an operation that sought to bring relief to all people hurt by the empire's wars. While an underground operation, she was able to save thousands of people through medicine, aiding refugees, and organizing safe haven for those who sought it. For this, Meredith was crucified upon its discovery. She began to cry, but not for herself, and cried for the people who she failed to save. A Magister, known today as Saint Flavion, was moved by her tears, and ended her suffering by driving his sword through her heart. From the blood spilt, Meredith was reborn and rose again from the cross, her body regenerating and her bounds disappearing. She gave testimony and what those who saw this that they shall do as she did in life, love one another as they loved themselves, and that they should go out and aid the sick and the suffering. She left the place of her crucifixion, and began travelling the land, preaching and performing miracles. From her teachings, her followers formed the Order of Peace, a Mendicant Order dedicated to helping the suffering, promoting peace, self-sacrifice, and equality. Her followers who remain separate from the Order of Peace are part of the Society of Meredith, a religious group the builds houses of worship throughout the land and makes up the population of Meredith's worshipers outside of the Order of Peace. Deity Appearance: As she appears travelling Other Information: The Order of Peace has been seen as a rising political/social force in the land, with various small towns and villages organizing their affairs around a monastery. Generally, followers of the order adhere to Meredith as their chief God, with the actual monks and nuns serving a life of abstinence and chastity, and in the sole service of others. Generally is socially progressive, and supports social equality, economic redistribution, and various theologies that hypothesize the homosexuality of Meredith, which has never been conclusively proven. The Society of Meredith is the name of the religious group that worship Meredith as their patron. The Society is non-dogmatic, with no set dogma or beliefs beyond the calling of Meredith, and has no recognized clergy or hierarchy. Their places of worship are meeting houses set up around the land where they practice silent worship, and share news and opportunities to aid and support others throughout the land. With no set dogma and church structure, various beliefs are espoused within the Society, from people who believe Meredith is the supreme being by which all other deities hold homage to, to others who believe that Meredith is indeed one of many gods to whom the give patronage to. It is not uncommon for towns and villages to be made up entirely of those part of the Society of Meredith, as it was common for her followers to congregate and form villages separated from the rest of the world to serve as religious hubs.

Religious groups that follow Meredith
Society of Meredith
The Society of Meredith is the entire body of Meredith's followers, organized and spread throughout the lands.
Organization: Congregational, the Society has no ecclesiastical structure and no clergy, rather all followers within the Society are declared to be ministers of Meredith. All are equal within the Society. With this in mind, the Society is organized so as to maintain communication between congregations, with large conferences setup so as to maintain this. Conferences are made up of individual congregations that meet to discuss matters pertinent to the faith, which can range from matters considering internal matters to the followers aid to the world.
Territory: One aspect of the faith that has been determined is that the Society of Meredith will not engage in governance or maintain control of a state. As such, kingdom and cities are not ruled by the Society, and most followers abstain from civil governance outside of town that are made up of the Society. As such, they live under the civil governance of others.
Beliefs: The Society of Meredith is united by the core belief that Meredith is their patron Goddess, and they're called to serve as instruments of her mission peace, mercy, and love. Beliefs beyond these are varied, with even theological belief on Meredith being the supreme being something of note in some followers. However, there are testimonies that all followers derive from Meredith's role as the goddess of peace and mercy, typically being advocates of social progress and economic equality and opposition to social hierarchy.
Worship: Formal worship of Meredith takes place in Meeting Halls, buildings erected to serve as a meeting of followers to worship in unity. Meeting for Worship, as it is called, is silent where people listen in the peaceful silence. It is believed that revelations from Meredith are revealed in the silence of the congregation. After this worship, news is shared between members of the congregation and members share opportunities to perform their mission of peace, mercy, and love.
Activities: The Society of Friends performs various charities throughout the world. From aiding refugees in war, to building clinics and helping the sick. As pacifists, they do not engage in war or any form of violence, though self-defense is generally seen as permissible. They also engage in various forms of social activism, such as promoting equality economically and socially.
Order of Peace
Organization: The Order of Peace is a mendicant order made up of monks and nuns who perform scholarly work, as well as serve as hubs for their divine mission, often serving as hospitals and refuge for the poor and refugees. All are equal in the order, with elected chancellors who serve to organize the affairs of the monastery. Their scholarly work also serves to produce massive libraries in the monasteries, which serve to educate the poor and those seeking this knowledge.
Territory: Identical to the Society of Meredith, though it's not uncommon for cities and towns to organize around a monastery due to their purpose as hospitals and refuge.
Beliefs: Same as the Society of Meredith, though members of the Order makes it their life's mission to serve as missionaries to the divine mission of Meredith. They also engage in scholarly work to educate the people.
